I originally just clicked on the .desktop file and opened it that way. This
broke, so I couldn't even click .desktops or shortcuts of them on my desktop.
Unfortunately, I switched to Wayfire and a different Arch-Based distro so I
can't verify if this is fixed.
I am gonna set this to WORKSFORME since it does appears to be working for you.
