Believe it or not, this is the way it always was, and it's intentional. The
effect you're seeing is what's called an "inactive selection" effect. It means
"these things are selected, but they don't currently have keyboard focus.
Losing the selection effect when not focused would be quite weird and
inconsistent with how other apps handle selection when they don't have focus.
