I've stumbled into an issue very similar to what's described here.
"kwin --replace" crashes for me, so I couldn't test that. However, I tried to
run Openbox instead of KWin, and freezes continued. I tried it with both
"KDE/Openbox" session, and with "openbox --replace".
I managed to fix this issue by switching compositing from OpenGL 2.0 to OpenGL
3.1 in Desktop Effects.
Can the cause be something else, not kwin?
Running ubuntu 14.04 with nvidia blob and two monitors. (I don't know whether
this is relevant or not)
