Digikam sometimes shows a few frames of the video file, sometimes it is even play the full video but then it becomes unresponsive (when this happens I get the following text on the console: tcache_thread_shutdown(): unaligned tcache chunk detected). But most of the time it hangs right from the start. I was able reproduce the same behaviour on my laptop (Elitebook 840 G1) with Intel GPU (driver used is i915) which likely rules out a relationship to hardware acceleration (don't think the GPU uses any).
