If you use the command line: exiv2 -eX 20160806-105555-NIKON-D300S.nef Then is in the created sidecar file also the Rating=4. I think it is related to the tag Iptc.Application2.RecordVersion=4 in the image. Please reports the problem with the test image to the Exiv2 team.
