I started ibus-setup as a normal user and un-ticked the box as described. Additionally, the input is much faster than before for normal ISO-8859-15 charcter set input (I use UTF-8, but my language skills are limited to the European character set). Thanks for finding the workaround. I think I will not enable "embed preedit ..." again, even after a workaround.
