hi Nate, yes I can when *NOT* using gdb. With GDB there i just a lag spike for
a few seconds and the list of icons actually loads up.
I have just had this same think happen when navigating the desktop, in
different circumstances. No core dump, just a black screen. I can actually
alt-tab between applications and ksyslog had the attached.
