            Bug ID: 443094
Summary: HTTP links no longer open in application based on file
                    type
           Product: frameworks-kio
           Version: 5.86.0
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: HTTP
          Assignee: kio-bugs-n...@kde.org
          Reporter: m...@dblsaiko.net
                CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
In the Default Applications settings, there used to be a checkbox labeled "Open
HTTP links in application based on MIME type" or something along those lines.
This checkbox is no longer there since the page was remade at some point, so I
assumed this was the default now, also considering this feature still works for
a friend. However, as much as I try I can't get it to work again.

I made a patch[1] almost a year ago which basically forced this behavior on,
which worked until a couple days ago but unfortunately does no longer for some
reason, I haven't checked yet. (However, obviously that is a workaround.)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open link with file type that isn't HTML, e.g. a direct link to an image or
a text file, through xdg-open, kioclient5 exec, or clicking on a link in an
application

OBSERVED RESULT
The link opens in the browser, sometimes immediately prompting to download the
file if it can't display the file

EXPECTED RESULT
The link opens in the text editor, image viewer, archiver, ... based on the
associated application for that file type
