Any thicker, and we get complaints that it's "wasting space". Any thinner, and we get complaints that it is hard to use and too much like a mobile phone scrollbar. This is the proof, that it ought to be customisable by the final user. After all, one can change mouse speed, buttons, etc. almost anything to the very exception of the scrollbar.
