Could it be a "refresh" issue? Does pressing F5 sort it?
Then maybe have a look under
.local/share/Trash
Do you have very many files in the files and info directories?
I ask as the forum thread you quote has people talking about deleting .cache
which would probably not do "the needed" and may mean all the thumbnails are
recreated.
