--- Comment #1 from Paddy Smith <jimbo_sme...@hotmail.com> --- Further investigation through gdb seems to show that it was the pulse audio volume plugin for the taskbar that was causing plasmashell to crash: Thread 1 "plasmashell" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x00007fff2bbb993d in QPulseAudio::Card::update(pa_card_info const*) () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQPulseAudioPrivate.so After removing the "plasma-pa" package in debian - plasmashell now seems to start successfully.
