I tested with a PNG and JPG under Windows and with the AppImage 21.04.1
(Lubuntu 20.04). The render works as expected with the wipe effect.
Do you have any special settings (GPU enabled?).
Were there any OS updates lately (I'm not a Linux specialist)?
