I can then use the digital clock as a cheatsheet for writing the date
somewhere, e.g. in a doc, without brainpower.

Wait... it seems like the digital clock's context menu has a feature to copy
the current date in the clipboard, and it always includes the "2021-05-16"
format. Not sure why it's always there, independent of the locale date/time.
