Yes, I do see that behaviour.
If I include the symlink explicitly:
folders[$e]=$HOME/,$HOME/symlink/
in .config/baloofilerc then I get balooshow and baloosearch "preferring"
symlink. I should go back to my test system and see if I missed that...
If you are using a new Neon Testing, it would be interesting if you also see
Bug 435521...
