Much to my chagrin, this started working. I'm not sure why. I did reinstall
KStars on the Mac, and built a new Ubuntu VM on the Mac... but StellarMate is
in the same state as it was when I was out in the field having connection
failures. Suddenly, it connects just fine. I did reboot the Mac for another
reason, but that's probably not it.
I have no idea. To verify this works under multiple configurations, I tried
three different machines, three different USB 2 cables (all ~6ft), direct
connections and those through the Pocket Power Box Advance, with and without
cameras/efw/etc and they all work. At this point after all this
troubleshooting, I'm not sure what happened.
