What kind of machine do you have? What is the size of the footage? It is normal
when adding effects to get a slowdown. A workaround is to lower the monitor
preview resolution and use proxies.
Of course there is room to improve the playback speed with gpu acceleration and
it will get better when this feature gets applied to MLT.
