If KSCREEN_BACKEND is not set, the KCM only shows "No kscreen backend found.
Please check your kscreen installation." A workaround is explicitly setting the
variable to e.g. "QScreen" or "XRandR".
Line 137 in libkscreen/src/configoperation.cpp explicitly asks for the value of
this env variable and has no fallback code if it is not set.
However, kscreen-doctor tells me the correct preferred backend for my system:
