Regardless of other visual effects, adding screen center position to already existing positions would be a plus. I like the sliding effect but only sliding effect will not make desired usability big difference (at least in my case). Let's imagine you turned your head because someone was talking to you. If you get back to look at your screen and notification is already there but there is no contrast in colors there is still a chance you will miss notification.
