VLC needs to inhibit suspend. For me it does; evidently for you, it only
sometimes do this.

Can you do an experiment for me?

1. Open VLC with a video
2. Click on the "Battery and Brightness" aplet in the system tray
3. See if the header of the applet says "An application is preventing sleep and
screen locking: VLC Media Player: playing some media.

If it does say that, then the screen should not lock in 5 minutes. If it does
not say that, then the screen should lock.

Can you go see if that's the case? Thanks!
