And the "Fusion" style works there without any problems, I can easily set the "Fusion" style here under my openSUSE KF5 Desktop. I suspect that something is wrong with your self-compiled KF5. Or is "Fusion" not available in your compiled Qt version? See if you could select the "Fusion" style in your compiled digiKam version in the digiKam Setup-> Miscellaneous-> Appearance.
