Markdown syntax highlighting does highlight bold and italics (for example, **bold**, __bold__, *italic*). Perhaps the problem is because the font you are using in Kate doesn't have bold and italic variants. * Check if bold and italics are highlighted in other syntax highlighters. For example, in C++ or JavaScript keywords like "if", "while" are highlighted in bold. * Indicate the version of KDE Frameworks you are using (In Kate, go to: Help -> About Kate -> Libraries) * Indicates the type of font used (go to: Settings -> Configure Kate... -> Apperance -> Fonts).
