I tried implementing the proposal recently and found it really weird and
frustrating. Every time I accidentally clicked on the desktop, edit mode exited
and all my windows covered up the desktop. It was quite annoying.
We haven't gotten any other complaints about this, and I think the current
methods to exit (click close button, activate an app) are sufficient. Sorry. :)
