Nope, it started happening again. :( I noticed something interesting: killing
kwin_x11 or disabling compositing fixes the problem immediately. It seems like
KWin is compositing garbage on top of all plasma dialogs. Moving to KWin.
As before, reverting

still fixes the issue, for unknown reasons. Is is possible that setting the
color to black for the desktop view affects how KWin does compositing for other
Plasma surfaces?
