I have this exact problem on my Ubuntu 14.04 system using an nVidia GTX560ti.
Any interaction with other virtual desktops disables all tools on the current
canvas. A new canvas can be opened, but that, too becomes dead if the desktop
is changed again. I've removed Krita 3 and reverted to Krita 2.9 for now.
