You'll want to take this upstream https://www.smartmontools.org/#BugReports
this is either a bug in smartmontools or, I guess more likely, the drive
firmware itself as it fails to respond (in time).
If you could attach a file with the output of `sudo smartctl --all --json
/dev/nvme0n1` that'd be helpful though. Depending on its contents we could
choose to ignore the return value of smartctl I suppose.
