There seems to be something that causes the shared folder list in user defined settings to be (partially) populated, but that event seems to be pretty random. Today I used the configured smb4k (7 shares) on my private PC again. I mounted 3 of the 7 shares. I checked the list and it was still empty. After I read your comment I checked again and - Hey presto! - 2 of the shares now appear in the list. But why didn't they never appear immediately after configuring them? Why didn't they appear on first use? Why do 2 shares appear while I mounted 3 of them in the session today?
