            Bug ID: 426681
Summary: New Version deletes original image
           Product: digikam
           Version: 7.1.0
          Platform: Microsoft Windows
                OS: Microsoft Windows
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: critical
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Versioning
          Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org
          Reporter: dirk.vard...@web.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When editing and saving a .tif image (saved image is .jpg) sometimes the
original image is deleted.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Digikam is configured to use non destructive editing and versioning. Editor
is configured to automatically save the changes. Saved Images are configured to
be .jpg.

2. Open an image of type .tif (don't know if this is relevant) for editing
3. Do some modifications (I adapted the curves)
4. Close the Editor which automatically saves the new version (.jpg) of the
image (normally the filename is exteded with ..._v1). In some cases (see below
Additional information) the file is NOT extended by .._v1. Digikam shows the
new version derived from original .tif image under version tab (right bar) but
the original .tif image is already deleted! If you update digikam the original
.tif disapears.

OBSERVED RESULT
a modified image .tif is saved with the same filename (without .._v1) with
different extention (.jpg). The original .tif image is deleted!

EXPECTED RESULT
a modified .tif image is saved with new filename (..._v1) independant of it's
extension. Original image is kept.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: Win10 / 2004
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma:
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version:
KDE Frameworks Version:
Qt Version:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
till now I'm unsure about the probability and other preconditions. Since I'm
using V7.1.0 I have modified about 20 .tiff images when this happens the first
time. But when it happens on a specific image, it can be reproduced on this
image by 100%. I have attached such an image.
