I had the same problem with Kile, which uses the current configuration with
Kate. Changing the shortcuts for code folding / unfolding to other symbols
seems to resolve this.
I guess this is a problem of the default keyboard short cut configuration. Not
sure how one would be able to get "Control+Shift++" instead of "Control++" on a
keyboard with no numeric keypad (e.g. laptops).
