Digikam is an open source digital asset manager (for video, images, etc) and it uses QT like Krita. Digikam is available for Linux, mac, etc I've no problems whatsoever to see colored menubar menu icons with Digikam, and both your applications use the QT framework. Since Digikam is open source, you can take a look.
