Since the native file dialog can be displayed with you, I suspect that these
are native Ubuntu / Mint packages. The behavior cannot be reproduced here. I
looked in the source code, there is no error, we set an initial path but no
filters. I suspect broken Qt packets from Ubuntu. Please test it with the
AppImage from www.digiKam.org.
