Sorry this is still not fixed in 5.18 after all these years:

ps output showing lots of CPU time clocked up:

Platform is non-VM desktop on Ryzen x86_64 workstation. No slideshow or
anything else running, just waiting for a login.

One thing I noticed is that moving the mouse or clicking on the keyboard will
cause the CPU usage to spike then return to normal. Switching the console to a
text VT doesn't change anything.
