Assuming dmask is behaving in a similar way, that would mean that dmask=077 actually filters out broader set permissions only leaving permissions for the user intact. If this actually makes trashing work in the expected way this is a strong indicator that permissions set to broadly are currently the reason preventing the expected behaviour. So probably the check whether the permissions are set to 0700 is to blame (https://code.woboq.org/qt5/kf5/kio/src/ioslaves/trash/trashimpl.cpp.html#1190). I don't really have a save testing environment and am also a bit time constrained.
