For example, I have multiple accounts with Merrill Lynch, and have previously had both checking and savings accounts with more than one bank, but am not aware of any such ID. I do know the savings and checking accounts had a common "base" number, with the two being distinguished by a "suffix" on that, but don't know of any reason to explicitly identify that common prefix.
