So, the thing is, I found why the file didn't load, Dmitry assigned the job of fixing that issue properly to himself after I had mitigated the issue by making Krita more resilient. But as for your actual question; the only way to make Krita work better with psd files is to use fewer layers and certainly fewer layer styles.
