I have looked at the code a bit, but I am not familiar with the KDE codebase at all. Furthermore, there is no documentation on how Kwin animations are implemented and the code seems as my experience is limited (I spent days just figuring out how gestures are delivered to the animation system until I saw some blog posts by Martin Flöser that helped a lot).
