One comment more - random unpredictable crashes *under heavy load* are often a
sign of CPU and/or memory problems. If you can find a specific sequence of
events which always causes the problem then it's likely a software problem. If
you can't then it's most likely (but not always) a problem with your own
hardware.

There are a bunch of memory and hardware testing tools that you can use to
check your hardware.  You can also try doing the same editing on someone else's
hardware. This should help you confirm where the issue comes from.
