Just want to add, using Kubuntu 18.04 with KRDC 17.12.3.
This is an annoyance that I run into everyday.
Simply having an option to always show the tab bar, I think, would solve this.
Having no tab bar for 1 connection makes sense, until you add another
connection and your first connection is now the wrong size.
I get around this by connecting to 1 system I don't need to connect to first.
Then opening additional connections to systems I do need. Once I have at least
3 open, I close the first connection. This lets all connections after the first
one be sized appropriately for having the tab bar displayed.
