I can confirm this for appimages as follows:
4.2.9: does not happen
4.3.0 prealpha git 9a24cf0 (18 Mar): does not happen
4.3.0 prealpha git 66b65ab (26 Mar): it happens
5.0.0 prealpha git 78d1d45 (08 Apr): it happens
A brush preset in this condition is marked as dirty in the brush presets docker
but can not be selected from the brush presets docker or the brush preset
history docker.
All goes back to normal after a restart.
