Please try with the current Kdenlive AppImage version 19.12.2c to see if there
are any packaging issues https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/
Start the project with the correct project settings. Ones you have a clip in
the timeline you can lower the project settings i.e. 720p to have a smoother
playback.
Upcoming 20.04 will have this scaling implemented. You can test with the daily
build. Monitor -> preview resolution.
