I did search the bugs database prior to posting but couldn't see any existing bugs that seemed to be related, hence the new post. I've been checking how KMyMoney is behaving. As per the bug report it still saves modified data files with no data, but I've found that if I choose to manually 'save as' and give the file a new name it does save the modified file properly.
