I asked Dan Dennedy about this and he suggests that we need to dig deeper into
the way Kdenlive uses MLT. He created a short MLT XML test that composes seven
clips onto each other using composite transitions and only sees the expected
load. In contrast, I often see a nonlinear breakdown of performance around six
or seven composited clips: rendering drops to one frame every five seconds or
so...
