I'm sure the play/pause button problem with two subwindows has been reported
before but I can't find it in the bug reports.

The second problem sounds similar to these:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=415367  (The second one is probably a
different aspect of the first one so I should tidy that up.)

They particularly affect small animated images with little content change
between frames - e.g sprite artwork.

Are you using Linux? They don't seem to happen on Windows.

If you turn off graphics acceleration (and restart krita) does the problem
stop?
If you set the animation cache to be In Memory instead of On Disk (and restart
krita), does the problem stop?
If so, it seems to be already reported.
If not then it's a different bug and needs a new bug report for it.
