Bug ID: 412715 Summary: Terminology for double-sided printing option is too technical and confusing Product: print-manager Version: 19.08.1 Platform: Neon Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: dantt...@gmail.com Reporter: k...@callthecomputerdoctor.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 123082 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=123082&action=edit print dialog with duplex label SUMMARY A friend messaged me saying that he "couldn't print on his new printer from KDE because it didn't have a double-sided option". He said other people in his household noticed a double-sided print option from Windows and MacOS, so it must exist. When I checked within KDE, the option is there, but the terminology is confusing to all but technical people. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open up Kate, or any KDE program 2. Select File -> Print 3. Click the Options>> button 4. Open the Options tab OBSERVED RESULT It has a heading saying "Duplex Printing" instead of more simply and clearly, "Double-sided Printing". The term "duplex" is not well-known among non-technical people. Heck, even I, an engineer have to stop and think what it means. Duplex? Why use such a technical word here? The print dialog for Inkscape is more clear in this regard. It has a drop-down menu with a label that says, "Two-sided:" and menu items that say, "One Sided", "Long Edge (standard)", and Short Edge (flip)". Easy to understand. EXPECTED RESULT Would be more clear to say something like "Two-Sided Printing". It would also be more informative to have qualifiers after "Long side" and "Short side" like Inkscape does. Like "Long side (standard)" and "Short side (flip)". Because it's not clear what those mean otherwise and which is best to select. Having one indicate that it's "standard" is helpful.
