Tried this with 19.04, works fine for me.
Test setup:
cullmann@jibril:~$ mkdir -p test/lala
cullmann@jibril:~$ ln -s test/lala/
cullmann@jibril:~$ cd test/lala/
cullmann@jibril:~/test/lala$ touch 1 2 3
The either browse to test/lala or just lala via file system browser and open
the 1 - 3 files, I never got duplicated files opened.
