Before I reported the bug yesterday I tried logging in and out to restart Plasma, and rebooting, but maybe because it was shut down and left off for a while overnight that made the difference. I turned the computer on and off a couple of times to make sure it didn't come back, and it didn't. Sorry if this wasted any of your time, and thank you for your help!
