It seems Plasma Search settings only affects KRunner and possibly other places
I don't know of, but not the Application Launcher widget.
Right click > Configure Application Launcher... > General, there should be an
"Expand search to bookmarks, files and emails" option and it seems to work. Of
course it's more generalized and I don't know if this is intentional.
