--- Comment #1 from David Jarvie <djar...@kde.org> ---
You should check the location of KAlarm's calendar files as follows. In the
menu, use View -> Show Calendars. Hover the mouse over each calendar shown
there, and it will display the location of the file used to store that
calendar. You can use the pull-down selector to show Archived Alarms and Alarm
Templates in addition to the default Active Alarms, to show other alarm
calendars (if you use them). These files are probably in ~/.local/share/kalarm,
which is the directory you mention.

To back up KAlarm, save those calendar files, and also save the file 'kalarmc'
which is probably in the directory ~/.config .

Note that in order to restore the files, you need to ensure that KAlarm is not
running, and also that Akonadi is not running. Use the Quit option in the
KAlarm menu to exit KAlarm, and then, in a terminal window, type the command
  akonadictl stop
and press Enter. Allow a few seconds for Akonadi to stop, and then restore the
files. After that, run KAlarm.

KAlarm should not crash when copying or restoring files. When did KAlarm crash?
Can you please attach a crash report which you should be prompted to get if it
crashes.
