1) please include the output of "env" so we can check locale is set up
2) Does this happen in a subfolder?
3) Weird dirs being created on Fedora sounds very much like
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1665521 which plagues most users
right now. Your way of triggering seems different, but it would be good to rule
it out.
