Bug ID: 401520 Summary: Using Timidity causes loss of audio on Ubuntu Product: minuet Version: unspecified Platform: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: midi-engine Assignee: sandroandr...@kde.org Reporter: hh.kde.cr...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Minuet depends on Timidity, and running timidity at startup appears to gazump pulseaudio access to alsa hardware. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. (K)Ubuntu 18.10 2. Install Minuet (pulls in Timidity) 3. Lose audio via snd_hda_codec OBSERVED RESULT no audio via hardware "stolen" by timidity EXPECTED RESULT everyone plays nice and smooth GI MIDI sounds via built in audio SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 18.10 using Minuet (18.04.3) (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: Qt Version: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Yeah, this isn't really a bug with Minuet, but Timidity appears to be pretty old and crufty (2004 last change?) and this took me about a day to diagnose and I'm not scared of poking around in the startup stuff and using lsmod, dmesg etc. It's going to be a total pain to someone using this educationally.
