            Bug ID: 400940
Summary: [Feature suggestion] kate embed konsole (aka,
                    optionally a konsole-widget somewhere
           Product: kate
           Version: 18.08.3
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
          Reporter: sheve...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

This is a feature suggestion for kate, the editor.

I accidentally clicked on the submit button before I could finish (I actually
first write content in my editor, then paste it into the textview widget here;
but when I typed the summary, I was trying to see if there was a duplicate, and
I thought I could find it but somehow I ended up misclicking ... and now I
can't find it again ... :\ :/)

This feature suggestion is to ask whether it may be possible to embed a widget
with KDE konsole within kate - ideally on bottom, but a user could decide
where.

The editor geany has a similar functionality, in that it allows you to embed a
vte-terminal, which is quite convenient. I'd love to have this for kate too.

I assume that it should not be too difficult to embed konsole into kate, since
I think yakuake embeds konsole already, so the code should be all there.

That leaves of course two questions:

(1) Whether the feature suggestion here has any merit or usability on its own.

I believe it may be useful to be able to use a konsole terminal within kate,
since some developers
may want to do so. It should be disabled by default so that most users do not
have this by
default - but there should be some option, perhaps under "advanced" or
something like that, where
a user could enable this.

(2) Whether there is someone willing and able to do implement this if (1) is
approved.

I do not know how difficult this task would be, but I believe it should not be
too difficult
since other applications, such as yakuake, do this already. (I do not know C++
that well to
know how to do this myself.)

PS: I may have overlooked this functionality already existing, in which case it
could perhaps be made more prominent in the preferences setting or somewhere,
for a user to enable/disable this.

The options confuse me a little bit right now.

If this is not a good suggestion, please just close it. I suggest to keep this
issue open
not longer than a year at max, so as to not clutter the tracker database (when
I searched for
this I found suggestions that were almost 10 years old, which I think is way
too old, so I would
prefer this issue to be closed after a while either way.)

Thank you for reading!
